The Vanilla Connection

Vanilla, a highly valuable crop, grows only in certain tropical locations, and Indonesia’s Papua is one of them. A USAID-supported sustainable agriculture program equipped vanilla farmers with the latest techniques in sustainable production and the means to connect to international markets. Augustinos Daka, a farmer in Papua, has since doubled his income and is now passing his knowledge on to other nearby farmers. Across Indonesia, USAID has supported nearly 5,000 small-scale spice farmers to produce better crops and generate more income.
