With support from USAID, Aisyah’s school developed mini-libraries and reading corners to build up a school a reading culture and spark passion for reading in its students. These books built literacy as well as an appreciation for reading for pleasure and helped students like Aisyah perform better in other subjects.
Aisyah extended her love for reading beyond the classroom through her efforts to teach her mother how to read. USAID Indonesia has donated eight million books to 13,000 schools in Indonesia. The Government of Indonesia has since committed to bringing these benefits to an additional 6.9 million students.
