A New Beginning

President Sukarno traveled to the United States in 1956 at the request of U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. Sukarno spent three days in Washington, D.C., with President Dwight Eisenhower, Vice President Richard Nixon, and Secretary Dulles. His visit marked the beginning of new international attitudes and strong relations between the two countries.
